Questions, answered plainly

The things people ask us most about fibreglass pools, kits, approvals and costs.

Does Opal Pools build the pool?

No. We sell Tranquility fibreglass pools and match you with an independent, QBCC-licensed pool builder in your area who installs it. If you would rather build it yourself, we supply the pool as a DIY kit.

Who makes the pools?

Tranquility Pools, who make every shell to order at their factory in Taree, New South Wales. Tranquility has over 30 years of experience in the industry.

What warranty comes with the pool?

Tranquility shells carry a 25-year structural warranty. Your builder's workmanship is covered separately under their contract and, for jobs over $3,300, by Queensland's home warranty insurance.

How much does a pool cost?

DIY kit shells start at $9,350 including GST, for the Cleo 4. An installed pool depends on the shape, your site, access, approvals, fencing and finishes, so every installed pool is quoted in writing after a site visit.

Do I need approval for a pool in Queensland?

Yes. A pool needs a building approval from a building certifier, and a compliant pool fence has to be inspected before the pool is filled past 300 mm. Your builder normally arranges this.

Can I install the pool myself?

You can, as an owner-builder. If the total value of the work is over $11,000, which almost every pool is, you need a QBCC owner-builder permit before starting. Plumbing, drainage and electrical work must still be done by licensed trades.

How is the pool delivered?

On a truck, finished and ready to set in place. A crane lifts it into the hole on delivery day, so your site needs room for a crane and a clear lifting path.

How long does the work take on site?

Fibreglass is quicker on site than concrete because the shell arrives finished. Your builder gives you a written schedule once approvals and your delivery date are set.

Can I have a salt water pool?

Yes. Fibreglass is compatible with salt water.

What colour should I choose?

Lighter colours give bright aqua water and darker ones give deep blue. Look at the colour range, then ask us about seeing a sample before you decide. Screen colours are only a guide.

Which areas do you cover?

Brisbane, Brisbane's southside and Logan, Ipswich, Toowoomba, Gympie and the Gold Coast, with a licensed builder in each area. DIY kits can be delivered across South East Queensland.

Is a fibreglass pool OK on reactive clay?

Yes, with the right installation. Fibreglass flexes slightly with normal ground movement. The base, backfill and drainage matter, and your builder may recommend an engineer's design on very reactive sites.
